NB-IoT Smart Control Module PCBA – Low-Power Wide-Area IoT Solution

Project Background

Smart locks, smart meters, and smart city infrastructure require reliable, low-power wide-area connectivity with deep indoor penetration. This project required an NB-IoT control module that could provide long battery life, easy cloud integration, and industrial-grade reliability.

Key Hardware Requirements:

  • Ultra-Low Standby Current: 7µA for extended battery life

  • Wide Operating Temperature: -40°C to 85°C for outdoor and industrial applications

  • Wide Voltage Input: 4-8V for flexible power source compatibility

  • Integrated Solution: NB-IoT modem + MCU + power management on a single board

  • Compact Size: Small form factor for integration into space-constrained devices (63 × 37mm)

Our PCBA Solution

We designed a compact NB-IoT smart control module PCBA integrating an NB-IoT modem, ARM-based MCU, and power management circuitry on a single board. The module provides developers with a complete, ready-to-use hardware platform for low-power, wide-area IoT applications.

Key design features:

  1. NB-IoT Communication

    • Integrated NB-IoT module (China Telecom version, 850MHz band)

    • TTL serial communication (UART) for transparent data transmission

    • Built-in eSIM (SIM card included, data plan not included)

    • Deep indoor penetration and wide coverage for urban and rural deployments

  2. Low-Power Design

    • Ultra-low standby current of 7µA — extending battery life to years

    • Optimized power management for battery-powered applications

    • Efficient wake-up and sleep cycles for long-term unattended operation

  3. Control & Integration

    • Integrated MCU with built-in networking and cloud service drivers

    • Pre-integrated cloud connectivity — ready to deploy without additional protocol development

    • High integration reduces external component count and simplifies design

  4. PCB Manufacturing

    • Compact 63 × 37mm form factor

    • Wide voltage input (4-8V) with built-in power conditioning

    • Industrial-grade components for -40°C to 85°C operation

    • Design optimized for high-yield production
